TRIAGE
OPENING RECEPTION

Join us to kick off Throughline’s ninth member exhibition, TRIAGE, featuring new collaborative works by Heather L. Johnson and Ellen Ray. The show is on view from March 28th—April 27th, with an opening reception Friday, March 28th from 6–9pm.

TRIAGE is an exhibition of cross disciplinary art that looks at our environment as a living entity, composed of interconnected organisms that thrive, evolve, and suffer trauma, as humans do. Through installation, video, drawing, embroidery, and interactive projects, artists Ellen H. Ray and Heather L. Johnson celebrate the resilience of non-human life while reflecting on consequences of environmental damage and our urgent need for deeper connections to the nonhuman world. As both artists question dichotomies emerging from our reliance on climate-compromising technology, they amplify hope offered in the persistence and tenacity of nature.

THE HAPPENING at THE ORANGE SHOW,featuring BRIOKIDS

Friday, April 25, 6:00pm - 10:00pm
at Orange Show Center for Visionary Art
2334 Gulf Terminal Drive, Houston, TX 77023

A monthly curated experimental performance art and music showcase hosted by the Orange Show Center for Visionary Art. Presented in conjunction with The Brio Memory Project by Heather L. Johnson, this month's event is headlined by BRIOKIDS, a hardcore breakbeat band whose members grew up near the Brio Superfund site in Southeast Houston during the 1990's. The notorious toxic waste site, still under remediation, bled into their music, inspiring a suburban underground culture fed by Briokids' rapid electronic beats and samples. Their first public performance in over a decade is sure to unleash an unstoppable stream of energy, amplified by textured visual projections.

The Happening will also include performances by Julia Claire Wallace, Jen Free, Patrick Doyle, David Lejeune with Pretty Dad, and others.

COMMUNITY READING & CLOSING RECEPTION

Sunday, April 27, 4:00pm - 7:00pm
at Throughline

An informal story reading and discussion, followed by a closing reception for the exhibition TRIAGE now on view at Throughline, featuring artwork by Heather L. Johnson and Ellen H. Ray. Programmed in conjunction with Johnson's ongoing "Brio Memory Project", Houstonians whose lives have been affected by industrial pollution have been invited to share their stories. By bringing together those who live or work in different neighborhoods affected by toxic air, soil or water, the hope is to build connections between such experiences, thereby helping to unify and amplify isolated voices.

We invite all to join us in this conversation, followed by a celebration ofTRIAGE. Dirty cocktails will be served!
