The Space We Make is a group exhibition celebrating the evolution of Throughline, its collective energy, and establishment in the greater Houston art community. In addition to an opening reception, the gallery will hold extended open hours during Untitled Art, Houston (listed above).
As Throughline enters its second cycle of programming, The Space We Make launches a new chapter, showcasing works across disciplines by new and veteran members, each of whom contributes their time, labor, skills, and life experiences toward building a contemplative space defined by experimentation, open communication, and the fostering of new ideas.
Over the course of nearly two years, Throughline has engaged the Houston art community and general public through exhibitions, receptions, talks, readings, dinners, performances, and more. In The Space We Make, member artists consider this history we have established not only within Throughline’s physical space, but within the unbounded and infinite metaphorical, emotional, spiritual, and philosophical realms that have inspired our practices. What does it mean to work voluntarily and collectively to preserve this autonomy in the present, for oneself and others? The artists of Throughline propose answers to these questions - as we take control of our own representation.
